"...a rapidly improving school." Ofsted 2015

Dear Parents/Carers,

Another year has flown by and this final half term has been action packed again. In addition to their studies, students have been busy contributing to the wider life of Theale Green. Whether it is through outstanding performances of Mort, The Trashion show, Play in a Day, or Life on Mars, contributing to The Summer Extravaganza or helping with our Year 4, 5 or 6 days, our students have made a positive contribution. We have also had a number of successful school trips including our ASD students attending PGL, Bushcraft for years 8 & 9 and the Grayson Perry Trip to Eton College which is featured in the May 2016 copy of The Eton Journal.

We have been incredibly impressed with the way in which ourYear 11, 12 and 13 students have approached their examinations and hope that they can all now enjoy a well-deserved break over the summer. It was particularly pleasing to see the culmination of their efforts in Art and Technology in the recent exhibitions. Details of how students can collect their results in August have be sent through via email and if you have any questions please contact Sharron Stevens our exams officer: sstevens@thealegreen.w-berks.sch.uk.

I wanted to extend a huge thank you to an anonymous parent for a very generous charity donation which has been fund matched. This money will be used to improve the educational provision for students across the whole school. Should you wish to support the school in a similar way, we would be very happy to hear from you and look at how we could support you with such a venture. Please contact either me (sbeeson@thealegreen.w-berks.sch.uk) or Kirstin Robb (krobb@thealegreen.w-berks.sch.uk)

I am delighted to announce that we have appointed a number of new staff who will join us from September. Ruth Rowlands and Lindsay McNeil will join the English department. We will also welcome Karen Farley to the Maths department and Julian Baker to the Computer Science department.

All that remains is for me to wish you and your family a relaxing summer holiday.

Best wishes

Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA)

Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: Every child has the right to say what they think in all matters affecting them, and to have their views taken seriously.

At Theale Green the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child is at our heart. We are currently on a journey to ensure children's rights are learned, taught, practiced, respected and promoted. With students, staff, governors and the wider community working together, Theale fosters a respectful and safe environment for all.

Mrs Cartland (Head of PSHE) is the Lead for RRSA and runs the RRSA Steering group. This group is supported by members of staff including Mrs Turner, Mrs Green, Mr Lambert and Mrs Easton as well as students from Key Stage 3, 4 and 5.

We are proud to announce that we have received our Recognition of Commitment from UNICEF for all our rights respecting work throughout our school and within our community. This is the first of three possible awards in the RRSA programme. It highlights the efforts of the students and staff within our school community so far in learning about and promoting the rights of the child. We will receive our certificate from UNICEF, which will be displayed in school, and we now have permission to use the logo alongside the school badge. We intend to keep you posted on our progress and will add additional information/content to the RRSA Frog Page and School website shortly. There are some very exciting events coming up next year including shoe collections, designing competitions and fundraising opportunities.

To find out more, please visit the UNICEF website

Meet the Professionals 2017 - Save the Date!

On Thursday 26 January 2017 we shall be hosting our third Meet the Professionals careers evening in the school hall from 7pm.

This evening invitation is most suitable for students from Years 9 to 13, those students who will be choosing their subject options, those thinking about further/higher education or exploring apprenticeships or just considering career paths.

We were lucky to have over 45 professionals join us in January 2016, covering a variety of professions and apprenticeship opportunities.  We hope to have many return to visit us, however we are looking for professionals in other industries such as hairdressing and beauty. If you are able to help us please contact Kirstin Robb, krobb@thealegreen.w-berks.sch.uk for more information.

More information for students will be sent out in due course.
